3 Rings Shiraz 2021

Overview

Deep crimson in color, the 3 Rings Shiraz offers lifted aromas of black pepper, violets, plum and hints of spice, cedar, tobacco leaf and char. The palate is rich and luscious with a deep integrated labyrinth of woven fruit and oak tannins that linger. The vibrant fruit flavors include black cherry, quince, plum, dark chocolate and fennel. Oak aging provides secondary characters of tobacco leaf, old leather and a fine dusty finish. Approachable, and balanced yet complex.

Wine Facts

VITICULTURE: Veraison started in late January to early February, and the cooler conditions and some rain in early February helped to plump up berries and provide some relief to soil moisture profiles. With the cooler weather slowing ripening, vintage was less compressed than previous years. Harvest continued well into April as the dry Indian summer continued to ripen the grapes.

VINIFICATION: The flavors are only complimented with extended maturation in French and American oak puncheons (500L barrels) providing the secondary complex characters that you see such as tobacco leaf and hints of old leather creating the fine dusty finish. It is an approachable and balanced yet complex wine.

INTERESTING FACT: 3 Rings isn’t just a name. Each ring represents the three tenets upon which the winery was founded: historic place, exceptional fruit and adept winemaking prowess.

FAMILY: “It’s magic.” Those two words have inspired awe and wonder in kids and adults alike for centuries. And those words still hold weight today. In fact, the team created a whole winery property around it. But the mere allusion to a centuries-old magic act in its name is not a trick—it’s what 3 Rings aims to convey with every vintage.

The legendary Hickinbotham family of the Barossa has made wine and grown grapes in the valley for four generations and established this winery in 2004. The Shiraz is the crown jewel of the winery expressing true Aussie Shiraz characteristics: spice, dark plum, licorice and mocha.
